Week 1: Considering our options

CNC.IT – Computer Numerical Control Innovative Technologies

Starting phase

Today’s work did put our creativity to the test. Since we had a group that consisted of all three engineering disciplines, we had to find a problem that could involve all of our group members.

We had many ideas such as robotic arm, chessboard with AI, old apple computer with lcd screen and printer, smart bottle but all had some negative and positive sides that did not fit our needs. We wanted to have a task that had not been done before and that could done a larger scale in the future. It had to be functional and creative at the same time not too complex and not easy. Therefore, we used a lot of the time to find our problem and after some time I came up with autonomous sorting system idea. After sharing it with the group members and having some discussions everyone started liking the idea and coming up with ideas on where we should start and if it had enough work for all us. Afterwards we were all on the same page and we had to talk with our supervisors and they also seemed to like our idea. So, we started sketching and drawing. Below you can see the picture.

Communication medium and rules

Then we had to come to an agreement on which communication medium we all could use which was messenger and we also used “OneDrive” for our work station so that it could be synched and everyone in the group could see each other’s work. So therefore, I had to create a folder in one drive share it by email with everyone. Afterwards we needed to make rules for the group. We agreed on working with the project for atleast 8 hours a week in school and also mapping our work on our folders on onedrive and name it with the date it correctly.

Group consistency

Our group consists of three computer engineers, two machine engineers and an electrical engineer. It was therefore important to us to find a project that would distribute the workload fairly when considering our areas of expertise.
