Project Fetch (20.09-26.09) Week 5

This week has been a slow one. The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ was overheating frequently and failed to detect the SD-card in it. Afterward, it would frequently reboot unexpectedly when we were trying to certain things. So after spending some time troubleshooting and trying to work past the problem we had to give up, as we found out on the Raspberry Pi forum that this most likely meant parts of it was defected. After getting our hands on a new one, we got Ubuntu running and we were back on track. This was a decent setback and delayed our process quite a bit.

Another setback that we ran into was that we realized our Kinect for Xbox 360 we were intending to use as our stereo camera required an AC power supply adapter, which meant we’d have to plug it into a power socket, which wouldn’t be very suitable for a car driving around the room. Instead, we have chosen to go for a stereo setup of cameras for the Raspberry Pi Mini Cameras.

Other than this, we made some minor adjustments to the lego claw that we made last week and did some testing with step-motor to ensure that it was working. We also spent some time and will be using time next week as well to look into how the software we’re using works and trying to get familiar with it. We will also make some adjustments on the car so the claw can fit on it.
