Hello and welcome to the first blog post for our project Hydrawlics!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who are we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are group 6, a team of five engineering students with interests in a wide range of fields, and a shared passion for robotics and practical challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all of us having experience with multidisciplinary engineering projects like USN Horizon, we found it important to define a project that adequately challenged both disciplines, while also allowing us to learn new skills throughout the development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our project: Hydrawlics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a productive stint of brainstorming possible projects, we landed on a couple of ideas. Everything from semi-sentient checkers-playing robots, to laser-based communication between a small rover and a communications tower. We concluded that these ideas were either too monodisciplinary, or not something that motivated us as a team. The one idea that stood out among the rest had the perfect combination of challenge, creativity, multidisciplinary work and motivated us as a group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are making a hydraulic-driven mechanical arm that can draw images supplied by the user. In this way, we blend the mechanical elements of multijoint structures and hydraulics with the software elements of image processing and robotics. We will also have to gain an understanding of topics like inverse kinematics and control systems. We see a lot of potensial in this product, with ways to expand on the initial idea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Our project model<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are going to use Agile project model based on Scrum. We will implement 3 of the basic scrum features; Sprintplanning, Standup and Retrospectives. In this way we will ensure good workflow and clear communication within the group. We will use storypoints in the sprintplanning meetings, and kanban board during the sprints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are using Notion as our knowledge platform, utilizing it for project management, sharing documents, requirement tracking and sprint planning. SolidWorks will be our CADing and simulation software. GitHub will host our projects code, and serve as our code base\u2019s version control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
